Like many rural parts of the Highlands, Glengarry has an acute housing shortage. As the local Development Trust, we are working to address this.
In 2022, we completed the transfer of 47 hectares of land at Ardochy Forest into community ownership. Here, we are working with the Communities Housing Trust and the Woodland Crofts Partnership to establish four new woodland crofts. They will comprise 2 tenanted crofts, and 2 owner-occupied. We are employing legal mechanisms to ensure the properties are financially accessible. An allocation policy developed by the community will determine how the properties are assigned.
As part of this project, the Communities Housing Trust also purchased the adjacent land, where they will build an additional 2 crofts and 4 new, affordable community homes.
